Concrete Protection

Primary and Secondary Protection of Concrete Structures and Constructions

In the area of a reconstruction of concrete structures, the company CHESTREAL PROGRESS a.s., offers its services to customers in four main areas.

1. Cleaning, cutting and decontamination of concrete structures by a highpressure water stream with working pressure of 500 – 2200 bar

2. Reprofilation of damaged concrete structures – application of redevelopment materials by torkreting, or by manual application including repairs of a steel reinforcement

3. Secondary protection of concrete structures – insulation against pressure water, rising moisture, chemical attacks and protection of concrete structures against weather effects.
– crystallic insulation – creation of a permanent insoluble aggregation of crystals in the upper and the undersurface layers of a concrete structure (to the depth of about 5 – 7 cm)
– application of insulating coatings – creation of an elastic impermeable, or semipermeable barrier with extreme adhesive ability to the concrete base
– impregnation of a concrete surface – use of high viscosity coating systems and insulation of the upper and the undersurface layers of concrete
– application of special coatings – antifouling, fire-stopping coatings and others

4. Repair and insulation of dilatations of concrete blocks
– so-called sandwich insulation of dilatation joints, insuring still reliable insulation of dilatations also against pressure water and at the same time also mechanical protection of dilatation.

Our company CHESTREAL PROGRESS a.s., is able to execute the mentioned activities also at extreme conditions resulting from the inaccessibility of these surfaces (height, depth, inclination and so on)

Selected areas of the use of the service of the company CHESTREAL PROGRESS a.s.:
– chimneys and cooling towers – cleaning, reprofilation, coating – secondary protection
– floors
– applied by a squeegee
– self-leveling floors
– retaining tanks and reservoirs – degreasing, reprofilation, insulation, coating
– dam and supporting walls – cleaning, reprofilation, repair of dilatations
– basement areas – water-proofing against pressure ground water and others

Insulations of Concrete Structures

The objective of insulation of concrete structures is to seal the concrete against penetration of liquids and gases at simultaneous preservation of the ability of concrete to dispose of residual water content.

The insulation of a concrete structure can be executed in 3 ways:

1. Creation of surface barrier –paints, coatings, screeds
Creation of the insulation of a concrete surface by the execution of a surface barrier by paint, coat or screed is suitable if, besides reliable sealing of concrete, the priority is also protection of concrete against abrasion and chemical attacks and aesthetic valuation of the surface.

2. Impregnation of concrete
Penetration of a porous concrete surface by high viscose paint is appropriate if a considerable increase of hydrophobic properties of the concrete surface is necessary.

3. Crystallic insulation of concrete
Impregnation of concrete, at which an impregnating material creates an aggregation of insoluble crystals by a chemical reaction. This crystallic aggregation will become an inseparable part of concrete, it will seal concrete permanently and it will protect it against the water penetration and other liquids. The rate and depth of the intergrowth of concrete by these crystals depends on the presence of water and on temperature. The successfulness of waterproofing does not depend on adhesion to the concrete surface.

Advantages of crystallic insulation:
– reliable insulation also against pressure water
– it insulates a concrete surface against penetration of chemicals (pH 3 – 11)
– treated concrete does not crumble or drifts out
– it enables concrete to dispose of remaining moisture
– extension of life and resistance of a concrete structure and steel reinforcement
– considerable increase of frost resistance of the concrete structure
– considerable reduction of wet processes during works with concrete (mature concrete is not needed)
– possibility of an application from both, the positive and the negative side
– lifetime of the insulation is limited by a lifetime of the whole concrete structure
– easy and non-toxic application
– it cannot be torn, pierced or damaged in seams

Protection of floors with self-leveling systems

Secondary Floor Protection
In the area of repair and application of secondary flooring protection including enhancement of physical-mechanical and aesthetic properties and resistance against mechanical force as well as chemical impact offers CHESTREAL PROGRESS a.s. its services to customers in four main areas.

1. Floor coatings with polymer composite materials:
– sealing, impregnation coatings

2. Application of coatings in different types of environments (thickness 2 – 10mm)
– application with scraper
– application with polymer composite ARC cast flooring systems
– application with epoxy and polyurethane cast flooring systems

In this area we offer solutions not only for premises with extreme mechanical and chemical impact, but also premises in which the application of flooring systems leads to and preserves a dust free environment, safety enhancements as far as improvements of aesthetic properties.

3. Application of screed systems based on cement, epoxy and polymer composite ARC products (thickness over 10mm)
Within this area we make use of standard technology practices especially to secure proper basement preparation for the covering flooring system layers. By use of polymer composite products we apply specific technological practices for the application and realization of so-called armor floorings which secure a protection of premises under extreme mechanical wear and tear conditions.

4. Realization of industrial floorings using tile pavement
Paving and pasting of tiles is an additional service of Chestreal in the area of standard flooring practices. This ambition is to suit even customers with cases, where the application of the above mentioned systems does not meet the requirements to preserve the original characteristics of the construction due to the law.

Chestreal recommends:
ARC polymer composite products:

Advantages:
– incomparable resistance against abrasion and shocks
– incomparable resistance against chemical force
– high adhesion to dry and wet surfaces
– damp reinforcement of the binder is minimizing the existence of atmospheric filled sections
– thermal expansion is close to the expansion of concrete
– non-shrinking, low exothermic reaction
